I seem to spend a lot of my time defending the honour of certain women in my life.
Probably the most controversial of my musical likings has been Jessica Simpson (left and HOT). I am not going to try and list all the reasons why I think she is fantastic here, but I ask you to listen to this track (ok, remix) and just try TELL me you dont love her.
I mean, she is really belting that song out like someone has a gun to her head dont you think? This is maybe one of my all-time favourite dance tracks and reason enough for me to nominate her into the official (actually just invented) Hall of Diva'dom.
The other special-someone I need to step up for at the moment is Ms. Ciccone Ritchie. Mads has been the subject of much criticism and slander in these lands of the Nether (what does that mean anyway) over a particular line in the intro of the track Sorry; "ik ben drovig".
In Dutch, this means "I am sad", which I admit, does seem like a rather sloppy oversight from someone who probably can afford a dictionary in every language, and then some. As you can imagine, pointing out this apparent lyrical mishap has become somewhat of a national past time in the last few months, usually with a tone that implies 'pfft… nice try'.
However, and you heard it here first, I have recently learned (from a drunk in a bar) that in AFIRKAANS this line means "I am sad", in keeping with the rest of the song.
So a big fat THERE to all you madonna-mocking, concert-still-going, doubting-thomases. She will accept your apologies, via me, in the form of champagne and strawberries.

OMG, there’s a Wikipedia posting about this… (some people have too much Internet time on their hands, DON’T they?)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorry_(Madonna_song)
“The Dutch translation in the song is “ik ben droevig” which translates to “I am sad”. The correct Dutch translation of “I am sorry” is “Het spijt me”. Strangely Altavista’s babelfish makes the same English-to-Dutch translation error (the Dutch-to-English translations are correct). ”
and what’s aFIRkaans? and the difference between ‘I am sad’ (Dutch) and ‘I am sad’ (Afrikaans)?
