Former politician killed in self-defence

AMSTERDAM – The former Liberal VVD politician from Amsterdam who is suspected of killing his wife was immediately released by the court, the Telegraaf reports. It looks as if he was acting in self-defence.

43-year-old Johan W., former faction leader of the VVD in Amsterdam Zeeburg, is thought to have killed his wife in January of this year.

At the hearing today it emerged that the man was attacked from behind by his 30-year-old wife, who was brandishing a knife. He was holding their baby in his arms at the time. In order to protect himself and the two-month-old child he said he put her in a headlock. The woman died as a result. The former city council member suffered several stab wounds.

The defence says that W. was acting in self-defence. The judge said this was a very plausible and did not order that W. be held in detention. The trial will resume in July.

Please tell me people aren’t actually buying this guys defence?

What a crock of sh*t - a woman attacking her husband while he was holding their baby. With a knife. Uh huh… sure.

  1. Women dont often attack men from behind, with knives.
  2. Women don’t often attack people holding their own child.
  3. If she did however, why did he not just disable her and get the knife away?
  4. She was killed from being placed in a “head lock”. Right.

The self defence argument in domestic violence cases was taken out of Australian law recently for precisely this reason; men kill their wives and say they were provoked.
