Last night I went to see Mr George Michael strut his stuff at the Amsterdam Arena (nothing like a failed Olympic bid to provide a city with fantastic mid-week concert venues). Whilst there was no mirror-ball entry or fancy choreography to speak of, all-in-all it was a really good show.
The tickets, delicious hot-dog dinner and as much beer as I could drink were a graduation gift from Robert (I know, how long can I milk this thing!). A really sweet gesture.
Sophie Ellis Baxter was the support act and she did a reasonable job. I think she was using a Fisher Price microphone because the sound was tinny and awful, but maybe that’s just what she sounds like. George came on about 1.5hrs after she finished, by which stage we could just about still the stage through the smog-like clouds of cigarette smoke that had filled the stadium. A LOT of people smoke in this country!
Even though I think people who obsessively take mobile phone photos at concerts are going to be my next group of people-to-hate (omg… annoying), I took a few photos below:
I see there are videos from last nights concert already up on YouTube. The song ‘precious box‘ from his last album was my favourite. The worlds longest ballad, Jesus to a child, was my least.

Amsterdam applied for the Olympics twice. They got it the second time they bid… in 1928. It is the Olympic Stadium that still reminds of that event.
Amsterdam Arena was never build for any olympic bids, but rather as the home of soccerclub Ajax. Amsterdam does hope to be the host of a near future Olympic Games, namely those of 2020 or 2028.

Ouch. You win this round… but unless the bitching about my city stops, I will haunt you like a rotten cadaver.
