So I have thing for both music (notice I said ‘thing for’ and not ‘good taste in’) and statistics. And because my biostats course is currently on summer break, my need to calculate things is going largely unsatisfied, well besides constant calculating of things at work, but that’s no fun.

According to my last.fm stats, which have been collating since May of 2006, I have listened to music for almost 40% of  the time I have been awake during the past 1.5 yrs. Hmmph… I actually thought it would be more.

1. months of data collection @ last.fm 20
–> minutes of data collection @ last.fm 876581.3
–> total # waking minutes 657436
2. songs listened to since start of data collection 35930
–> song minutes (approx. @ 5 minutes per song) 179650
= % of each 24hrs listening to music 20%
= % of daily ‘awake time’ listening to music 27%
3. ipod minuntes in 20 months @ 2hrs per day (approx) 73000
–> updated total song minutes 252650
= % of each 24hrs listening to music (inc. ipod) 28.8%
= % of daily ‘awake time’ listening to music (inc ipod) 38.4%

Maybe I can calculate a p-value somehow (that, or get a life).
