So I have thing for both music (notice I said ‘thing for’ and not ‘good taste in’) and statistics. And because my biostats course is currently on summer break, my need to calculate things is going largely unsatisfied, well besides constant calculating of things at work, but that’s no fun.
According to my last.fm stats, which have been collating since May of 2006, I have listened to music for almost 40% of the time I have been awake during the past 1.5 yrs. Hmmph… I actually thought it would be more.
| 1. months of data collection @ last.fm | 20 |
| –> minutes of data collection @ last.fm | 876581.3 |
| –> total # waking minutes | 657436 |
| 2. songs listened to since start of data collection | 35930 |
| –> song minutes (approx. @ 5 minutes per song) | 179650 |
| = % of each 24hrs listening to music | 20% |
| = % of daily ‘awake time’ listening to music | 27% |
| 3. ipod minuntes in 20 months @ 2hrs per day (approx) | 73000 |
| –> updated total song minutes | 252650 |
| = % of each 24hrs listening to music (inc. ipod) | 28.8% |
| = % of daily ‘awake time’ listening to music (inc ipod) | 38.4% |
Maybe I can calculate a p-value somehow (that, or get a life).

Just wanting to clarify…shouldn’t the column reading “iPod minutes” read “Dell DJ minutes” in your case? I mean, you of all people hate the iPod monopoly (but secretly want every model to create your very own industrial design gallery).
