Thank Christ (this is the one time of the year I can actually say that and not be afraid of being struck by lightening) that Xmas is over once again.

It’s definitely not my favourite time of the year, although I guess there are a few good points. But in general, I’m usually glad to see the back of Mr. Claus. Actually, this year has been fairly crap for quite a few people I know, so it’s goodbye to 2007 and a new optimistic outlook for 2008 for me.

Pros of xmas being over:

  1. I can stop feeling like a total loser because I spend the day alone, working and updating my blog.
  2. The stores open again (I’m out of milk)
  3. Because of point 1, I usually don’t repeatedly gorge myself in the name of family togetherness and baby-Jesus, thus allowing me lord my non-expanded waist line over those who did. I’m actually wearing a Britneyesque boob tube and black hot-pant to work today, just to drive the point home.

Cons of xmas being over:

  1. I have no legitimate reason to listen to Mariah’s Christmas album, featuring unbearably-festive songs like this:
Fun! Almost makes me want to go back to church. Almost.
  2. I have fewer excuses to buy myself extravagant and unnecessary gifts.
  3. I have fewer opportunities to bringup the topic of Swarte Petes (however you spell them) and arguing with Dutch people about whether or not they are racist stereotypes. I find serving a selection of my favourite Dutch confectionary NegerZonen or NegerTiten, really helps fuel the fun.
  4. Now I have to start worrying about what to do on NYE. I swear I’m one holiday away from becoming a crazy cat-obsessed recluse.

Yep, 4 to 3 in favour of christmas sucking. I knew it.

[Update: That music link above is acting strange, it sounds like Satan doing a carol or something! On my PC at least. This is what its supposed to sound like!]
